The Herkimer Arms is safe! The only apartment building designed by Greene & Greene was approved for demolition nearly two years ago as part of the Fuller Seminary Master Plan, but will now be relocated and restored by Heritage Housing Partners (HHP). The building will move to a large residential lot on North Raymond Avenue and become part of a great historic Pasadena neighborhood which seemed an impossible outcome just months ago. Zoning laws require that the building be converted into two units, so the first and second floors will become two large flats. The plans are very sensitive to the original interior fabric, and much of it will be retained. Pasadena Heritage is very grateful to HHP for stepping into the breach and devising a plan to move and save the endangered building. We were able to assist along the way and have made a loan to the project from our revolving Preservation Fund. There is a lot of work ahead, but this unique historic building will have a bright future!
