Preserving a Greene & Greene Masterpiece: The Restoration of the Duncan-Irwin House

The Duncan-Irwin House, designed by Charles and Henry Greene starting in 1906, is undergoing a comprehensive multi-year exterior restoration, led by Kelly Sutherlin McLeod Architecture, Inc. (KSMA). Treatments include the installation of a new roof, extensive repair of the house’s characteristic exposed timbers, along with restoration of the iconic pergola at the formal entry, second level decks, and the porte cochere. The Duncan-Irwin House, designated locally and nationally, is widely acknowledged as one of the Greenes’ masterworks. All work has been executed using best-preservation-practices, with value and conservation-based treatments.

Kelly Sutherlin McLeod, FAIA will be joined by representatives of the multidisciplined project team including the current homeowners, the general contractor, and engineers. McLeod is a nationally recognized leader in heritage conservation, having worked on many of Southern California’s most culturally significant properties, and is currently an adjunct professor at USC School of Architecture.

Following the presentation, join us in the Blinn House’s historic 1906 living room for light bites and wine. Enjoy an opportunity to meet and speak with members of the project team and the homeowners, and to learn more about the craft and care behind this spectacular restoration.
