Our sister organization, Los Angeles Conservancy, is kicking off its popular series, Last Remaining Seats, at the historic Orpheum Theatre, which turns 100 next year! This opulent 1926 theatre was the final home of the famed vaudeville circuit in L.A. and remains one of only a few historic theatres across the country still featuring a Mighty Wurlitzer organ. Come join us on the VIP tour, lunch and show!
Itinerary:
· We will meet at the Fillmore Station of the Metro (95 Fillmore St, Pasadena- with free parking) at 9:45 AM
· We will travel together to 7th & Metro Station
· As we exit on 7th Street where, just next door, we will tour the Fine Arts Building Lobby (811 W 7TH St) - A three-story masterpiece covered in Batchelder Tile with a history of the site and Batchelder’s work here.
· We will walk to 7th & Fig, just two blocks away, for top-quality Mendocino Farms sandwiches and salads with gluten-free and vegan options.
· Then, we will walk the six blocks to the Orpheum Theatre, passing a Whole Foods if you want some gourmet movie candy!
· We will get the VIP treatment with early admission and reserved seats. Zoot will provide a quick tour and explain the history of the theatre, which went from Vaudeville House to an early LA model for Adaptive Reuse with Preservation.
· We will watch the silent comedy “The Freshman” with Harold Lloyd to live music from the Mighty Wurlitzer organ. If you have never seen a silent comedy in a movie palace with live accompaniment from a theatre organ, you are in for a big treat!
· Anyone in our group who is not yet an LA Conservancy member can get a membership discount at the event!
· We will return on the metro to Fillmore, arriving back by 6 PM.
