New Worlds to Build: Highlighting Some of Los Angeles's Most Innovative Residents and Their Historic Spaces

Take a different look at Southern California’s history and meet some of the people who lived a little differently.

Writer Amanda Karkoutly, creator of the CahuengaPast Instagram and newsletter, will share an illustrated talk on Northeast L.A.’s unconventional residents. We’ll explore the artists, scientists, occultists, and independent thinkers whose ideas and lifestyles didn’t always fit neatly into the norm but whose work and presence shaped the world around them.

Through photos and stories, we will see where they lived, what they built, and the spaces where they gathered.

Join us in embracing these often overlooked and untold stories.

*Refreshments will be provided

Join Amanda Karkoutly, creator of the CahuengaPast Instagram and newsletter, for a one of a kind talk on the unconventional residents of Northeast Los Angeles.

Through photographs and stories, she explores the overlap between architecture, creativity, crime, and the more metaphysical side of the region’s past.
