Our Place
Our Place is an upcoming Pasadena Heritage initiative that connects community, historic preservation, and the future of skilled trades. Grounded in the belief that historic places are sustained through hands-on knowledge and craftsmanship, the program introduces middle and high school students to meaningful career pathways in the built environment through workshops, real-world project experiences, mentorship, and micro-credential learning.
A core component of the program is a free online learning platform designed to make preservation and skilled-trades education accessible to all students, regardless of location or resources. Through short lessons, videos, interactive activities, and career exploration tools, students will discover how preservation carpentry, masonry, tile work, plaster, finishes, and related trades contribute to community history, sustainability, and disaster recovery. The digital platform creates an easy entry point for young learners while connecting them to hands-on opportunities, local professionals, and future training pathways.
By elevating preservation skilled trades as creative, viable, and community-centered professions, Our Place builds a bridge between heritage and opportunity—ensuring that the knowledge needed to care for historic places is carried forward by the next generation.
