Twilight Tombs: A Funerary Architecture Tour

Join Pasadena Heritage on a night-time exploration of the architecture of funerary, and the eternal resting places of Pasadena’s famous and infamous residents, including Thaddeus Lowe (the first Aeronaut of the Civil War Union Army and namesake of The Mt. Lowe Railway), Octavia E. Butler (award winning science fiction author), Henry Markham (the18th Governor of the State of California and Representative of the US House, namesake of Congress Street), architects Wallace Neff, Sylvanus Marston, and JJ Blick), Eldridge Cleaver (Black Panther turned Republican candidate for US Senate), Charles Richter (like in “The Scale”), Richard Feynman (Noble prize winner and proficient bongo player), the Scovilles, Woodburys, PM Green, DM Renton, Pancho Barnes' parents, Emma Bangs, and many more. Dress for cooler weather/night time temperatures and uneven/non-paved terrain. Bring your best directional flashlight (we will have extras).
Crafting Memories: Family Day at the Gamble House and Pasadena Museum of History
The Gamble House welcomes all ages for a free day of architecture, art, and exploration. Enjoy self-guided tours (no reservations required) of the first and second floors. The Pasadena Conservatory of Music “Musical Storytime” will take place outdoors under the big oak tree. Create a scenic interpretation of your Gamble House visit with a variety of papers, cards, and images (materials provided) with Gloria Newton from Remainders Creative Reuse. Enjoy the interactive pinwheel art installations of local artist Jerolyn Crute Sackman that celebrate motifs found in the house.
At Pasadena Museum of History, explore our new exhibitions: Stories, Traditions & Designs: Spotlighting the African American Quilters of Los Angeles and Cha-Rei Tang: 48 Years of Making Art in Pasadena. Visitors are also invited to enjoy Mini Self-Guided Tours of the historic 1906 Beaux Arts Fényes Mansion and the Finnish Folk Art Museum. Docents will be available throughout the site to answer questions and provide additional insights. Get creative with Art 2 Go’s ceramic tile workshop, a hands-on activity designed for all ages and skill levels. Craft a unique keepsake inspired by the art and beauty surrounding you in our galleries, gardens, and the Fényes Mansion.
